Establishment

Govt. Degree College Uri was established in the year 2005 under the special scheme of Prime Ministers reconstruction through UGC for development and construction. The college  is catering to the educational needs of a vast catchment area Uri, of district Baramulla in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and is located on the left bank of river Jhelum about 10  Km’s east of LOC.

Infrastructure and Facilities

The college campus is beautiful and   presentable, spread over 48 kanals and enclosed by a compound wall. The Main Block comprises of Principal Chamber, Establishment section, Library, Laboratories (for  Chemistry ,Zoology ,Botany ,Physics, Computer Science) Classrooms, Smart Class Room, Browsing centre and college Auditorium with seating capacity of 300. Moreover, work on New Classroom Block and Girls Hostel is under progress and are likely to be completed within the current financial year, besides the work on Computer Science Block and Environment science Block is about to start.

Special Features

Apart from routine teaching activities, the college offers its students numerous opportunities for all-round personality development. Students are encouraged to participate in curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities. Symposia, debates, discussions, seminars, dramas, and competitions on various social, cultural, and academic topics are organized. Inter and intra-college competitions expose students to diverse cultures and ideas. Students participate in inter-house and inter-college sports activities, which also offer them a chance to play in inter-university sports events. An adequate library with internet facilities is available for students.

The Career Counselling Cell provides literature and counselling for various career advancement opportunities. Examinations centres of IGNOU and MANUU (Maulana Azad National Urdu University) in college help the students of this border area to peruse various graduate and postgraduate courses through distance mode. NCC and NSS units of the college participate in various on-campus and off-campus activities.
