Govt. Degree College, Ramban was established vide Govt. Order No: 155-HE-of 2005, Dated 02-05-2005. It shifted to its own campus at Karol, Ramban in 2011. The College building is located at a hilltop, half a kilometre from NH44 and 05 km distance from Ramban town. The college overlooks river Chenab also known as Chandrabagha.
The college got recognised by UGC under sections 2(f) and 12(b) of UGC vide order no: F.8-392/2006(CPP-1) dated 18/10/2006 and was affiliated to University of Jammu vide order no : f.Acd/07/425/1-61 dated 12-05-2007. College got its first Accreditation from NAAC in 2019 with a C grade. The College building, a double-storeyed structure was constructed by NBCC under PMRP with the requisite funding done by UGC. The land donated to College is around 95 kanals, with constructed area of around six kanals. A proposed expansion of the institution is under process. The college has proposed 150 bedded Women Hostel, Principal Quarters (under construction), Faculty quarters, Eight new Additional Class room, two storeyed Multipurpose Hall with library on first floor and also an Auditorium. GDC Ramban is a co-educational seat of higher learning. In 2023-24 enrolment of students in Arts, Medical and Non-Medical was 567, College will be introducing commerce stream this year in 2024-25.
In the globally competitive environment, the college faculty has readily taken up the challenge to engage and prepare the students for future. The focus is to give a platform of opportunities to the young adults, to accomplish and fulfil their dreams. The college is running its curriculum under New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and offers subjects in the stream of Humanities, Science and Commerce under the University of Jammu. The college is ever ready to ignite the young minds with new ideas and scientific approach in life so that the vision envisaged for its students is accomplished. The success of our Mission for fulfilling the vision of the college rests not only on the preparedness, dedication and cohesive approach of the faculty but also on commitment and sincerity of the students towards having above 75% attendance in class and being regular for their continuous evaluation through Internal Examination and other methodologies adopted by the concerned teachers. The college also offers education through Distance Education Centres of IGNOU, MANUU and Jammu University, for the students of the far-flung areas of District Ramban.
