Welcome to Govt. Degree College Hiranagar

Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Govt. Degree College, HIRANAGAR (Dist. Kathua) is a co-educational institution, with a strength of 742 students (2023-24), recognized by the UGC under sections 2(f) and 12-B. The College is affiliated with the University of Jammu, Jammu and accredited by NAAC at B+ Level(2022) valid till 2027.

Vision

An effective vision statement is vital to a strategic planning process. The vision statement of an institution describes what value it enshrines and what it aspires to become in future. In the vision of educating, empowering and making the individuals resourceful and enlightened, Girdari Lal Dogra Memorial Govt. Degree College, Hiranagar believes;
1. To educate, empower and enlighten the students.
2. To attain higher level of access and excellence in the Higher Education system of rural border belt with greater efficiency, transparency and responsiveness.
3. To explore and nurture the hidden talent of students.
4. To disseminate knowledge and wisdom among students so as to make them responsible citizens of the country.

Mission

The mission statement speaks volumes about aims and goals of an institution. The mission of GLDM Degree College Hiranagar is;
1. To promote quality education through continuous effort, conviction and commitment.
2. To empower women and enable them to rise above all constraints.
3. To introduce innovative courses which only strengthen educational inputs for the betterment of the society and enable our students to face challenges of life effectively.
4. To develop all round personality of students through various curricular and co-curricular activities.
5. To offer a wide choice of study in various disciplines at UG Level catering to a cross section of students from all backgrounds.

Goals and Objectives
1. To impart high quality education to the students.
2. To help the students by providing them self- help courses so that they can be self-reliant.

3. To provide value-based learning that has a greater relevance in the dynamic and ever-changing work environment.

4. To inculcate in the students strong intellectual, moral attitudes and ideas.
5. To produce graduates capable of responding to the challenges of life in every possible way.

Accessible location, proximity to industry hubs and historical sites/cultural centres.

            The College spans over an area of about 47 kanals. The green cover of the College is contributed by magnificent trees like mango, arjun, jamun and others. The green canopy and the architecture of the College makes the College an ideal locale for pursuit of higher education. The College is situated about 1 km away from Jammu– Pathankot National Highway and is equidistant from Hiranagar town, leaving campus free from any traffic related noise pollution. On the other hand, the location of the College is in close proximity to an industrial estate (under the aegis of Directorate of Industries of Jammu), spread over 52.6 Kanals of land with 24 units operating therein. The other historical/cultural places like Jasmergarh fort (historical monument of Jasrota Kings) and Jandi Bagh are an added advantage.

The College at present runs Arts, Medical, & Non-Medical streams offering 13 subjects as Majors, under NEP 2020, in different combinations. 

  • In addition to this, the College has a distance education study centre functioning under the aegis of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU),New Delhi.
  • In the recent times, the College has carved out a niche for itself in academic circles of higher education, by bagging third position in 2014, two First Positions in 2016 and 2021, 7th position in 2021, 6th positionin Arts in 2023 and 6th position in Arts in 2024 at the University Level examinations. These academic achievements have strengthened the resolve of the College to proceed in pursuit for excellence.
  • Extra-curricular activities are promoted with equal zeal and students have excelled in inter-College competitions organized annually by the University of Jammu, significant one being the winning of Governor’s Rolling Trophy in Hockey in 2023 and Volleyball in 2024.

7. Sports: The college has recently come up with a dedicated Volleyball Court with proper matting, poles and other accessories. The indoor sports facility includes Carrom, Chess,Table Tennis, Badminton.

  • The College has Student Support Services like psychological Counselling, career services, Placement cell, remedial tutoring, etc.
  • Research and Exchange Opportunities: The College has the following MoUs with different Institutions & organizations with a view to lead into joint research projects, faculty exchange programs, and shared resources, enhancing the academic and research capabilities of the college.
  • MOU  between Environment & Social Welfare Society, KHAJURAHO, Madhya Pradesh and GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar on 18-05-2022.
  • MOU  between Govt. Degree College, Bishnah and GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar on 22-06-2022.
  • MOU  between Govt. Degree College, Kathua and GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar on 22-06-2022
  • MOU  between Department of Physical Education and Sports & GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar and District Youth Services and Sports office, Kathua on 21-07-2022.
  • MOU is signed between Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Ladies Organization), FICCI FLO and GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar on 20-05-2024.

2. The College continuously seeks association & funding for organizing workshops/conferences and Seminars from ‘The National Academy of Sciences, India’ NASI (Jammu Chapter),

J&K Science Technology & Innovation Council (JKSTIC), DST, J&K, Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti (Jammu Chapter), SPIC MACAY, IIIM, Jammu under the aegis of their Technology Business Incubator (TBI) from time to time every year.

3. The College has a Chapter of SPIC MACAY(Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) a National Organization.

4. The College under its Institution's Innovation Council, An Initiative of Ministry of Education, GoI has successfully completed 4 phases in 2023 and already done with 2 phases in 2024 upto April 2024 (already uploaded on the portal) with the objective to catalyse START-UP culture and build a strong and inclusive ecosystem for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

5. The College has been Ranked in NIRF under ‘List of the Selected Institutes for the Impact Lecture Scheme’, under Ministry of Education, Govt. of India’s Innovation Cell, among other 471 institutions across the Nation. Our College stands at the level 156.

6. As a major highlight, the College was awarded a sanction of a grant for organizing IMPACT LECTURES for IIC Institutions 2023-24, (Phase I),during IIC Academic Year 2023-24.
