Government Degree College Hadipora is emerging a new seat of learning, in the picturesque environs of Rafiabad, traditionally known as Ellaqai-Hamal, called so after Naliia Hamal, the stream on the banks of which the settlements are situated. Located on the Baramulla-Handwara national Highway, the college campus is spread over an area of eighty-four kanals of land. The main block of the college covers plinth area of 15000 sq. feet. It is surrounded with apple orchards and paddy fields which presents a familiar Kashmiri landscape. The institution brings higher education to the door steps of a vast population with six feeding Higher Secondary schools.
The institution was officially established in 2011 but it was in October 2017 the foundation stone of the College complex was laid by the then Honourable Minister for Higher Education. The college will get on track for full growth giving the students an opportunity for exposure.
The college is set to introduce all major arts as well as science subjects along with some skill courses. The college is already on the path of putting in place electronic mode of teaching and digital library. Aspirants of the area will find the college a vibrant institution furnished with the wherewithal of an up-to-date centre of higher education. The college administration has resolved to do everything to meet the demands of a progressive and knowledge seeking society.
Government Degree College Hadipora perhaps is an attempt to push the frontiers of higher education within the reach of rural population who cannot otherwise afford it. Who are not only shy of geographical and cultural distances, but also journey shy and psychologically oriented towards local and immediate. A cursory look at the profile of the students brings this fact vividly to the fore. Some seventy-five percent of the students are female and overwhelming majority from economically poor background.
The College is committed to academic as well as co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Participation of students in various seminars, group discussions, debates, conferences and other programmes is our prime focus.
