About the College

Profile of the College

Shri Pandit Prem Nath Dogra Government Degree College, Samba, stands as a beacon of academic excellence and holistic development in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Since its establishment in 2005 by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and affiliation with the esteemed University of Jammu, the college has consistently demonstrated a commitment to providing quality education to its students. The college is already enjoying UGC recognition under sections 2f of UGC and 12B of UGC accorded to the institution by UGC in 2010. Nestled in a picturesque semi-urban area and spanning an impressive 13.75 acres along National Highway 44, the college campus is situated at the bank of river Basantar and overlooks Nandini Hills. It offers a serene and conducive environment for academic pursuits and a plethora of extracurricular activities. This nurturing atmosphere fosters a vibrant and intellectually stimulating campus life. The college laid its foundation with the Arts stream in 2005. However, remaining attuned to the demands of students, it introduced the Science and Commerce streams in 2010. Recently, the college upgraded its curriculum by incorporating NEP-2020 in letter and spirit and offers various inter-disciplinary courses to its students. This foresighted decision has marked a significant transformation, turning the college into a comprehensive educational hub, offering a wide array of academic choices to cater to the diverse interests of its students.

Central to the college's success is its exceptional faculty. Comprising 38 permanent members, the faculty boasts impressive academic backgrounds and extensive experience. Their unwavering dedication enables them to mentor and guide students, nurturing their personalities and honing their skills to excel in national and international competitions. Shri Pandit Prem Nath Dogra GDC, Samba proudly embraces a student-centric academic philosophy, placing experiential and participatory learning at the core of its pedagogy. Students actively engage in a wide array of activities, including group discussions, presentations, assignments, projects, seminars, field trips, educational tours, and industry exposure trips. These hands-on initiatives instill an application-based outlook, empowering students to tackle real-world challenges with confidence. The college’s commitment to holistic development is evident through its encouragement of students to participate in inter-university competitions encompassing academics, public speaking, sports, and more. Such opportunities cultivate a spirit of healthy competition and foster well-rounded individuals, ready to take on the world beyond academics. Furthermore, Shri Pandit Prem Nath Dogra GDC, Samba takes its role as a responsible institution seriously. With an ardent commitment to societal and ecological awareness, the college has established various clubs like the Red Ribbon Club, Basantar Eco Club, Cultural Committee, Literary Committee, Women Development Cell and many more. These platforms enable students to channelize their interests and actively contribute to the betterment of society and the environment.

The college community extends its reach far beyond the confines of the campus, with the students actively engaging in community service through the NSS/NCC and Red Ribbon Club. They participate in meaningful activities like Blood Donation camps, visits to Old Age homes, Orphanages, and other outreach programs. These initiatives instill essential values of ethics, social responsibility, and compassion in the hearts of the students.   In keeping with the times, Shri Pandit Prem Nath Dogra GDC, Samba embraces modern flexible learning methodologies. Seamlessly blending traditional in-class learning with cutting-edge technology-driven approaches, the college ensures that its students benefit from a dynamic and up-to-date learning experience. Leveraging technology, the faculty enhances content delivery and enriches their own knowledge, staying at the forefront of education.
