Established in 2005 by an order of the Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir, Govt. Degree College for Women, Kathua has evolved into a hub of academic excellence and holistic development. Initially offering Arts stream, it expanded to include Science from 2010-11, catering to the growing educational needs of the region. The college's serene campus spans 60 Kanals, featuring state-of-the-art facilities including ICT-enabled classrooms, modern laboratories, a multi-purpose hall and Open Air Theatre. Recognized by UGC under sections 2(f) and 12(B), the college achieved a B+ grade accreditation from NAAC in 2022 with CGPA of 2.62. Boasting a learner-friendly environment with lush green lawns and comprehensive facilities like sports grounds, a browsing center, Library and a well-equipped hostel (30 bedded, approved). The college is committed to the task of achieving academic excellence by enhancing the skills of the students The mission is to provide value based education which has contemporary and global relevance and reach The college has objective of training young women to excel in professional and personal life. College offers a diverse range of programs aligned with NEP 2020 across disciplines including Arts, Sciences, and Vocational Courses. Actively engages in cultural and sports activities, securing accolades in competitions and recognized at national levels for NCC and NSS activities. Supported by the Higher Education Department, J&K Govt, and local community, the college strives to set benchmarks in women's education, catering to diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Various clubs including Yuva Tourism Club, Drug De addicition and Psychological Councelling cell, Eco Club, Red Cross Club, Red Ribbon Club, Science Club, Road Safety Club, Youth Club, Electoral Literacy Club, SWEEP Cell, IIC, Carrer counselling cell enrich student life with activities promoting overall personality development.Continues to enhance educational quality through interactive sessions, workshops, and seminars, fostering a conducive learning environment for all students. Govt. Degree College for Women, Kathua, stands as a beacon of empowerment, shaping the future of women through education and holistic development.
