Govt. Degree College Bhaderwah NAAC accredited 'B' grade, being the 1st institution of higher Education of erstwhile Doda district, was setup in the month of August 1955. Situated at an elevation of 5316 ft from sea level, this college has total campus area of 126.12 Kanals. This college is situated at a distance of 190 Km from Jammu, the winter capital & 200 Km from Srinagar, the summer Capital of the J&K state.

This being one of the premier institutions of the J&K state, started disseminating education encompassing moral values to the society through a total of 52 students in the first batch of year 1955 under the dynamic leadership of Prof. A.S. Dhar as its founder Principal. Four-year general degree programs in the streams of Arts, Science, Commerce and Computer Science and two year Post Graduate Programs in the subjects of Urdu and Chemistry are on offer in this college.

This college has well equipped science laboratories and other student support services like class rooms, canteen facility, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, medical aid facilities; college bus etc. library the core asset of any educational institution is available in this college campus for all the students and other interested persons. The library building is housing a large number of books on different subjects and is situated at a central location on the college campus where it is easily accessible to all for whom it is primarily meant. This library has separate reading rooms for male and female students. The college has a vibrant wing of NCC and NSS for imparting leadership qualities to the students. Known for its efficient and motivational instructional mechanism and also for transparent and smooth conduct of internal assessment and annual examinations, this seat of higher learning has produced so many luminaries who are serving the humanity across the boundaries of nations through all the spheres of life whether it be political, education, art & literature, judiciary, health services, peace, spirituality etc.

To ensure better service & comfort of the students the old single seated potable desks have been replaced by fixed customized desks in all the classrooms. Also, in order to organize academic/ professional events such as conferences, seminars, guest lectures etc. a smart class room fully equipped with modern gadgets has been established. Further the facilities for the student in the library have been enhanced by way of procuring new chairs, up-gradation of reading tables & purchase of new & updated books on all the subjects. Besides we are having a 42 seated college bus which is specially meant for the students. Apart from its academic excellence, this college is also excelling in and taking care of extracurricular activities. Our college offers excellent sports facilities to promote fitness and teamwork. Our college offers diverse extracurricular activities such as regular poster making, painting, cultural activities, and involvement in community service, fostering personal growth and social engagement. Co-curricular activities, including guest lectures, seminar, workshops, academic conferences, and educational tours, complement academic learning, providing practical insights and enriching the overall college  experience.

Moving on the track of progress vis-à-vis in the areas of curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities and campus expansion on an accelerated pace this college is sure to achieve the targets under the effective and efficient guidance of the dynamic and experienced head of this institution Dr. Attar Singh Kotwal.
